Keys (which look like this in the game) are a currency that were introduced in update. They are the secondary currency in the game. Most importantly, keys are used to revive your character 1 key, and the cost doubles every time this feature is used. Keys are also used to unlock special outfits for many characters, and/or powers for hoverboards. There are many ways to obtain Keys. For example, they can be found while running in the Subway, opening a Mystery Box, or from the Weekly Hunt or Season Hunt. You can also buy different amounts of keys from the Shop, though it costs real money. As for the appearance of the key, it is light blue with a white outline, and has a star-shaped keyhole.

Where to Find Keys?

Watching the Daily Video for the first and fourth time of the day (3 each).
Watching the Daily Video for the fifth time or more (up to 1 on random).
Obtain from the Mini Mystery Box/Mystery Box (up to 1 (can be doubled), rare).
Collect during a run (1+ , found in the same places where Power-Ups lie, rare).
Inside special offers or bundles
Obtain from the Super Mystery Box (up to 3 (can be doubled (1/2 only)}, rare).
Obtain from the Weekly Hunt (mostly week 1).
Obtain from tiers in the Season Hunt (from 2 (tier 0/5/10 only) (can be doubled (tier 0 and 5 only)) and 5 (tier 15/20/25/30/31 only)).
Obtain from the Token Box (up to 6 , only if the player purchased all tokens).
Connect to Facebook (10 along with other gifts).
Introduction alert (5 , this was only available during the update).

Obtain from the Season Quests' rewards (5 for 3500 Sneakers, 10 for 4000 Sneakers alongside Event Coins)
Get them from Daily High Score (3 in tier for 1,000,000 points on certain days).
Get them from Ranked Rewards in Mystery Hurdles (Top 10% score - 2 , Top 1% Score - 6 )
Obtain them from collection milestones (5 for 2,700 points, 7,400 points, 13,100 points, 18,500 points, 25,700 points, and 31,025 points each)
Obtain them for completing core collections (30 for The Originals, 15 for Alter Egos)
Buy in the shop with real money (up to 800 for $99.99 USD ).

How to Spend Keys?

Revive after a run (1st revive costs 1 ; consecutive revives double in cost over time).
Buy characters and boards. Additionally, players can pay with keys instead of paying for them with Event Coins.
Buy certain outfits for characters.
Buy special powers and styles for hoverboards.
Buy Token Boxes in the store.
Collect Daily/Season Quest sneakers (up to 3/6 (Daily Quests only) and up to 50 (Season Quests only)).
Buy special offers and bundles.
Skip rewards in the Season Hunt.
Buy portraits in the store.

Trivia

You are given a limited amount of time to decide if you want to revive after a crash.
- You can skip this by tapping outside the box when the timer has reached approximately 5/8ths.
The key, the Headstart, the Jetpack and the Hoverboard are the only things in the game that can prevent you from losing, with the exception of the Super Sneakers and Power Jumper, which might save you and/or cause you to lose.
In the edition, the Holiday Video was added, allowing the player to receive 2 keys once they watch the whole video. But after that edition, it was replaced with the Daily Video, but with the same function.
- From onwards, the video to earn keys gives 3, instead of 2.
They are quite a rare item to be found during a run, even rarer than a Weekly Hunt token/Season Hunt token.
- This is why the mission "Collect 2 (or 3) keys in one run" is extremely hard.
